Forage
WHAT IS FORAGE?
Now in its third year, Forage is a multifaceted celebration of bikes, art, music, performance, and film, that takes place every July. Forage takes participants on a group bike tour through midtown and downtown Reno with “Stops” at four different locations featuring visual, performing and interactive art elements. This year, the tour culminates at the Nevada Museum of Art with a fantastical sci-fi film odyssey featuring a new live score and, for the first time ever, a post-film roof party!
THE STOPS
Stop 1: HOLLAND
Stop 2: RIDE BY – CARTER BROS. LOT
Stop 3: MCKINLEY PARK
Stop 4: NEVADA DISCOVERY MUSEUM
Stop 5: NEVADA MUSEUM OF ART
Forage begins at 4PM at the Holland Project Gallery on 140 Vesta St. The gallery will feature Strychnine Divine, an exhibition curated by local artist Ashley Westwood, showcasing Oakland painter Scott Greenwalt as well as fantastic local artists, a unique soundscape, solar Theremins, seed bombs, potion making, a mural by nationally recognized artists, Overunder and Labrona, and more. From Holland, the tour will ride through the Carter Bros. lot on Virginia, where surprises abound, and head to McKinley Park where there will be interactive games, bike inventions including a bubble bike and boombox bike and a chance to get wet, cool off, and earn one of five specially designed merit badges.
Next, riders head to the Nevada Discovery Museum for hands-on experiments and displays (including hydrogen balloons, insta-snow, smokey bubbles, miracle fruit, non-Newtonian fluid, and more), as well as local rockers Spitting Image and a giant volcano that will erupt in confetti. The final stop for Forage will be at the Nevada Museum of Art where food trucks will meet hungry riders and the Reno Bike Project will provide valet bike parking. At 7:45PM in the museum theater, there will be a screening of two silent sci-fi cinematic classics accompanied by an original live score directed by Dan Ruby and featuring more than 15 musicians, including members of the Reno Youth Philharmonic. Post-performance, attendees cap the night on the rooftop of the NMA, where there be music, mini-hot air balloons, and a Melies-inspired photo backdrop.
THEME
Every year, Forage picks a theme to guide and unify all the diverse elements. This year’s theme is SCIENCE & ALCHEMY.
