geek art

This week’s geek art is brought to you by dORKBOT — name given to informal gatherings (now worldwide) for “people doing strange things with electricity”.

Above is an image from one of Portland’s dorkbot gatherings in which roughly 20 prosthetic mouths played harmonicas set on different pitches. The sounds, rather than sync up in a ditty, harmonize with long drones and sweet tones.

Dorkbot is a non-$ oriented organization in which the meetings vary somewhat depending on the host city and people who attend.

“…. dorkbot isn’t really a forum for formal artist talks or lectures, but rather a chance for diverse people to have friendly conversations about interesting ideas.”

Check out the following invitation and perhaps you’ll understand why I love this organization so:

” Dorkbot will be having another informal gathering! …. come on down and bring your mom. We’re generally pretty easy to spot. Be on the lookout for out-of-place uncomfortable dorks with glowing laptop screens and piles of gadgetry on the tables. Amen.”

Thanks Dorkbot for another fabulously playful work of art.
