APPLE PIE – Film Screening
April 29, 2017 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
APPLE PIE is a feature-length artist-film produced over 3 years by Aotearoa, New Zealand artist, Sam Hamilton. A critical yet playful inquiry of the ever evolving relational complex between astronomy and our species’ most vibrant cultural and existential agencies.
The film was shot on super 16mm film in Aotearoa, New Zealand, Samoa, and a remote mountaintop astrophysics observatory in the east Oregon desert. It features celebrated Samoan dance artist Ioane Papali’i of MAU Dance Company, a contract broken by the laws of nature, smoking suitcases, a suburban sun pyramid and a cast of sub-atomic particles, a haircut from the horizon, introspective naked pluralism, and some beef at the meridian line.
APPLE PIE is currently touring the US west coast with generous assistance from the Oregon Arts Commission and is also currently installed at the Portland Art Museum as part of a 5-month solo exhibition titled Standard Candles https://portlandartmuseum.org/exhibitions/apex-sam-hamilton/
