POSTPONED: Motor Studies Opening Reception

April 1, 2020 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Join us Wednesday, Apr. 1 from 5-7 pm for the opening reception of Raphael Arar’s exhibition, Motor Studies, in the Holland Project Serva Pool Gallery!

Raphael Arar creates art and design experiences that examine the complexities of our increasingly technocentric lives. While his artwork raises questions about our relationship with modernity and technology, his design work revolves around answering those questions in human-centered ways. His work highlights the sociopolitical implications of emerging technologies, particularly those that mediate human-to-human interaction. His media often incorporates systems of sculptural elements connected through code that seek to engage the audience with varied modes of interaction.

Arar’s work has been exhibited at museums, conferences, festivals and galleries internationally including the ZKM Centre for Art & Media, Gamble House Museum, IEEE Vis Arts, ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, Boston Cyberarts Gallery, Athens Video Art Festival and other venues. He holds an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts and a BA from Boston University. He is currently Senior Design Manager at Khan Academy, where he’s designing for the future of education. Previously, he tackled ethical platforms of AI at IBM Research, taught media theory at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and designed over a hundred iOS apps with Apple. Inc. Magazine says he “epitomizes the style and multi-disciplinary skill set of the modern designer,” and in 2017, he was listed as one of Forbes’s “30 under 30 in Enterprise Technology.”

Motor Studies is on exhibit Apr. 1st – Apr. 2nd 2020 in the Holland Project Serva Pool Gallery at 140 Vesta St, Reno, NV.
