Skin Dream: Closing Reception

June 10 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Please join us for the closing reception of Marissa Kamenetsky’s solo exhibition, “Skin Dream” at Serva Pool Gallery.

Statement: “Well, I like using women as my subjects because I like to make things based on my own experience. I think that women inherently exist in a space between what we understand as reality and what we can only picture in our minds. Each piece begins with a near life size watercolor illustration created from a blend of references. The models for each piece range from vintage pin ups, modern pornography, as well as images I take of myself. It is my understanding and observation that the experience of embodying a woman is as desirable as it is painful. Combining a photograph, something largely understood as a direct product of reality, with a drawing, something understood as the human mind’s interpretation of the reality around them, I seek to imitate the mixture of fantasy and reality that takes place in the experience of a woman. It is through these methods that I find solace in creating an expanse of the real and unreal”.
-Marissa Kamenetsky

Marissa Kamenetsky is a multimedia artist currently residing in Truckee California. Desire in all its forms has been the source of Kamenetsky’s work since earning her degree in Fine Arts from the University of California Santa Cruz. Photography and illustration have long been passions of hers, recently combining them to create an ethereal digital style. Perhaps inspired by her years of study in ballet and dance, Kamenetsky favors telling these stories of desire through the female body across all mediums. Whether expressed through her own body or a conglomerate of other’s, clothed or nude, drawn or photographed, she admires the visceral feeling of expression through the body.
