Imagination Is More Important Than Knowledge: Cultivating a Sense of Wonder through Writing.
Though we now think of them as separate realms, artists have long drawn upon scientific knowledge for inspiration. In this workshop led by Andy Butter and Naseem Jamnia, participants will look at the scientific world (and beyond) through exercises in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. Together we will explore the possibilities afforded to us by the fields of ecology, neuroscience, and astronomy. This workshop is open to scientists and nonscientists alike – all are welcome.

Andy Butter grew up on the world’s largest lake in northern Minnesota and now resides in the high desert, studying poetry at the University of Nevada, Reno. His previous publications include Yes! Magazine, National Geographic Explorers Journal, and The Owen Wister Review.
A native Chicagoan and former scientist, Naseem Jamnia is the co-author of Positive Interactions with At-Risk Children (Routledge, 2019). Their articles and essays have appeared in Bitch Media, The Rumpus, Cosmopolitan, The Washington Post, and other sites. In addition to being the managing editor at the indie gaming website Sidequest.Zone, Naseem is a fiction student in the MFA program at UNR.
