Last Week-The Shins, Caring is Creepy

“And the meteorite’s just what causes the light
And the meteor’s how it’s perceived
And the meteoroid’s a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee”

Head out the window, eyes pulled open by sunlight, barely audible music finds an awkward but awesome harmony with the muffler sounds from what you know is a motorcycle without having to check—there is nothing like being along for the ride. You know your going to get to wherever you’re going eventually regardless of what path you take because, even if you don’t make it to where you thought you had to be, you are where you are and what could be more beautiful or destined?
I get a little overwhelmed by how invariably interlaced all of these paths are and how easy it can be sometimes to forget that. I need to pull over.

Taking a second to gaze at all the moving parts, I always end up losing my concentration to the “void.” I can’t figure out why December blue looks so much more pale than August blue, or if it is just me. This smoke that I am assuming comes from those fires above L.A. doesn’t help in making that distinction. I try to imagine how the light from stars fit into that blue and I can see the specks start to emerge. One red star turns a corner into the movie theaters; a pale stars slips off the sidewalk and has to laugh at himself so that others don’t. One old and fading star realizes eternity. A final star restarts his car and takes off thinking, “I wonder how many people have no idea how important they actually are? Everyone is as equally important in making those pale and rich blues. But don’t tell anybody, they’ll start to think you’re actually as corny as you pretend to be.”
