Shhh…It’s the News

Hello everybody- sorry for last weeks, no-news Wednesday, but I’m back and ready to report. Today in the news scientists are saying that caffeine may ease workout pain. I know this doesn’t sound that interesting, especially since most of us are probably not running to the gym or working out like crazy, but the interesting part is the word caffeine. Any time I hear anything positive about caffeine, I must admit, I’m most likely going to write about it. Caffeine, or more importantly coffee, is one of the finer things in life and as it has had a bad rap in the past, I feel it is my duty to help clear itself of its poor reputation. A new study suggests that drinking about two cups of coffee before working out could relieve post-workout soreness by almost 50 percent. Researchers even say that caffeine is more of a muscle pain reliever than more commonly known pain relievers such as aspirin or Ibuprofen. Although this is exciting news, there is also bad news. Researchers also claim that this pain relieving effect is only 50 percent effective when the individual does not regularly drink coffee, or regularly exercise. Hmmm, so I’m not positive here, but I would like to say that since I do regularly drink coffee, and I feel like I try and work out regularly as well, that even if the results are less effective than 50 percent, say like 25 or 30 percent, than I’m still excited and still thinking that this is all good, important news. Going to have coffee with friends, grabbing a hot latte before class, studying, reading, watching a movie, doing a crossword, driving and now even before running or yoga…HIGH FIVE! Coffee is good, it de-stresses and it is magical. Let us all look forward to the day when all of the benefits of coffee come out into the open. Yes, that will be a good day!
