West of East and South of North

Sorry to be two days late but I’ve been collecting thoughts and adventures to fill this week’s blog up with; and with much luck too. This week I thought I would give a quick “where-to” on a funky cool place to go jump off cliffs and enjoy the warm waters of a river that’s the epitome of summer fun.
None other than the infamous Yuba River! I’m Sure tons of you have been there already but I’m sure some of you have missed out on the chance to go. So I’ll dish up the info.
Everybody has a picture of the stereotypical horror movie starting with the strange little town with supposedly wholesome values that seems to sit in an oddly remote place–Well, this is that town. First off we got off I-80 west at the nevada city/grass valley exit, just before yuba gap. Driving towards nevada city we turn off the road and drop down a serpentine canyon road that doesnt seem to ever lose its sense of fun when I drive down it. After dropping down this canyon for what seems like an eternity we pass through that horror flick town that I mentioned earlier–this is Washington city. Wasting no time we get through it and move on up a dirt road following the river, all the while teetering on the gravelly edge of a mean looking cliff.
Finally parking along side the road we walk down the the river and trek up the shores till we get to a place called the stadium with a pleasant 45 or 50 foot cliff jump into warm, crystal clear waters. Before we get too worn out my little posse and I head farther up this river. Stealthly we slip past a grumpy old woman who selfishly hoards one side of the shore to herself and always chases us away with various welcoming hand gestures and soothing words.
Afterwards we scramble up a creek to a set of three granite slides that drop from pool to pool to a bottomless pool at the end. These slides are perfect for relays and races and cat and mouse games. I dont Know, whatever you like.

So if you ever get the chance to head that way make sure to stop in the yuba river.
There is even the infamous emerald pools. Home to the goliath, an 85 foot monster of a cliff. But thats for you to find and me to know.

Peru part deux will come soon. Till next week, when I’m off to New York to see my jewish bretheren.
