I’m gonna do a new thing. Every week I’m going to scour the Flickr sites of the other Flickrites that have befriended Holland over the past year–and pick a weekly champion for the blog. We have some talented friends among us and it’s going to be fun to check out how they document the pieces of their days and nights, and what catches their crafty eyes.

This week’s photo comes from a hot redhead you may have seen around town, but for now, we’ll acknowledge her by her Flickr codename, Alice in Reno. I love the simplicity of the photo and the juxtaposition of the killer knife with the fleshy, rotting watermelon. And maybe because it’s pouring rain and gailforce winds are pummling leaves at my window at an alarming rate, that there’s something nice about remembering those fine summer days not long past, but only for a second, until the watermelon morphs into a screaming, gummy mouth, and the knife conjurs a menacing and unpredictable personality of its own. A perfect photo for Halloween week.
