Tyler Calkin “Gesture Index”

New Glyph Gallery utilizes the giphy.com space for virtual exhibitions. Artworks live on The Holland Project’s branded account as “gif stickers” and are available for use in Instagram and any other app where Giphy is enabled. The works are on view for three months, searchable through the tag “hpgalleries” and the exhibiting artist’s name.

The inaugural New Glyph Gallery exhibition, Gesture Index by Tyler Calkin, features 12 animated 3D works that capture the movements of physical interaction. The series includes two sets, “Beginner” and “Advanced”, one that helps viewers to identify the gesture through short phrases, and the other that leaves the interpretation open without obvious clues, opening the models up to multiple uses and new meanings. Gesture Index is an extension of work that Calkin has exhibited in both virtual and brick-and-mortar spaces, the work was on view in the New Glyph Gallery from January – March 2021.
