Holland’s got one hell of a Hip Hop show on June 23rd with Sole, Moodie Black, Brzowski w/ Dj Halo, and Max Bundles. Sole is the legendary co-founder of indie hip hop label Anticon records, one time label of Sage Francis. Sole has a stream of consciousness vocal delivery that’s as dense as it is quick. His rapping style clashes interestingly with his haunting midtempo beats. Moodie Black is a combines minimal almost industrial beats with a strong rapping over the top. On the exact same vibe as the new Kanye West record or Death Grips. Brzowski mixes Jazz beats with a slow and speed up vocal delivery. Finally Max Bundles will amaze with his groovy conscious hip hop styles. Sunday, June 23rd at 8PM, $7.

I’m so excited for Peace, Royal Noble, and P.K. Hutchinson on June 14th at Holland. Hailing from Vancouver Peace plays their own brand of poppy post-punk, kind of like Interpol at their best. Really excited for yet another return of Royal Noble, the vehicle for excellent rock and roll song writer Justin Craperi. And lastly we have the maiden solo voyage of P.K. Hutchinson from Triclops, The Frontiersmen, and Molesters.NV. It’s going to be a night of terrific music. Friday, June 14th at 8:30PM, $5.

On Sunday June 16th we welcome fast hardcore masters Punch and Holy! Punch like it short, fast, and poignant. They are probably the best purveyors of Fastcore on the west coast. Holy from Italy still keep it fast, but add in a little bit of 90′s screamo influence. To make this the best night of hardcore in awhile the vegan straight edge sounds of Volitions and the super heavy breakdowns of Ironclad. Don’t miss this. Sunday, June 16th at 7:30PM, $8

Awesome show alert May 31st! Portland’s Tiny Knives are playing with Alphabet Cult and Ian Bigley. Tiny Knives is awesome riffed out lady noise punk sludge and it totally rules. It’s the type of music with loose genre qualifications, but is just really good! Alphabet Cult is Reno’s best! They fall under the metal prog punk and feature members of Gob (GOB!!!!!!!), The Shames, Plastic Caves, and Loadstar (LOADSTAR!!!!!!). Ian Bigley is that cool weird orange headed co-mastermind behind Library Lady, get ready for some rad mutant solo jams. This is going to rule. Friday, May 31st at 8PM, $5.

In high school, you either missed prom or went and it was totally boring. Well, we aim to rectify that situation with Drag Prom, the most fun dance party you could ever imagine featuring DJ Atey Ate and The Gemini Duo (that’s right! FROM POLO LOUNGE!). To make this as fun (and cheap) as possible, come dressed as the opposite gender or at least as in you formal (cheesey prom) attire–think John Waters, 80s wedding, New Jersey prom…you know. We’ll have treats, photos, kings and queens, and a whole bunch more. This is going to be awesome and the most fun ever, don’t be too cool! Saturday, June 1st @ 7PM. $10 if you dress up / $12 if you don’t / $15 for couples.

Wednesday, June 5th we’ve got an awesome night full of awesome sounds! All the way from Canada Ok Vancouver ok and Katie and the Lichen are gracing the Holland Stage with Fil Corbitt. Ok Vancouver ok lay in the near perfect songwriting nebulous that is indie; kinda lo-fi, super sentimental, but always awesome. Katie and Lichen are in the same territory, but somehow split the difference between indie pop and a cute folk-punk vibe. They Both rule! And to make the night extra amazing we’re having Fil Corbitt of Earthscraper, The Xenophobes, and Handsome Vultures play. It’s going to be great! Wednesday, June 5th at 8pm, $5.

Featured in the hallway gallery, local longtime artist and tattooer Ron Rash, will be exercising the demons of his own making in Retro-Catharsis, Powered by Gin. Working in a looser style of painting, reminiscent of his work from the 90′s, the large installation pieces reference Reno life and personal moments both good and bad. At the same time the main gallery will host Andrew Nixon’s first solo exhibition in the space with Wilderness, Pussy. The exhibition is an immersion into the multimedia world of Posey, an outcast teenage character. Featuring paintings, installations, animations, music and a comic book, the exhibit evokes all of the senses while weaving together a non-linear story of exploration, the wilds and teenage life. Both shows run May 20-June 7 with an opening reception Tues. May 21 6-8PM.
